Summer is here, schools are broken up, and we have the four best ways for you and your kids to pass the time on these long summer days. It can feel daunting to plan a whole summer of activities, so these suggestions will help fill your days and create some beautiful memories this summer.
Blue Peter Badges
There are now Blue Peter badges for all interests and passions, with music badges, book badges and sports badges; your kids can find one that suits them. You can apply for these badges online or by post with the help of a guardian. Using the badge, you can gain access to over 200 attractions, including London Zoo, Hampton Court Palace and many more attractions across the country, keeping you even busier this summer. Look on the Blue Peter website for more details: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/blue-peter
Nature Bracelets
Need a fun activity to lure the kids outside this summer, try making nature bracelets. Simply use some wide tape or slice paper into a bracelet shape with double-sided tape on and loop it around their wrist with the sticky side out. Take a walk around the garden or in your local park, letting their curiosity lead them to beautiful leaves, flowers and feathers to add to their bracelets. Let them stick all their little treasures to their bracelets until they are covered. Take this a step further for your older children by setting a theme, like a colour that they can try to collect.
Ai Colouring Sheets
Personalise your own colouring sheets, with photos of your favourite people, pets or places. Simply take a photo that your kids would want to colour in and upload it to ChatGPT with the prompt, “Turn this image into a cartoon colouring page” and wait for it to be converted into your personalised colouring sheet. Then let your kids enjoy colouring their own photos, making the memories go even further.

Flower Art
Need a good way to get the kids excited for a walk? Try creating flower art! Doodle your kids’ favourite animals on a piece of cardboard, cut them out and prick holes in the card for flowers to be placed in. Then go outside and have your kids find flowers, sticks or grass to fill in the doodles with colour. For a lion, try finding dandelions to create a beautiful mane. Don’t forget to take a photo of the final artwork to save the memory forever!
