Are you a Grandma? Or a Nonna? A classic Nanny or a ‘Lovey’?
Over recent years, the trend of Grandmas choosing different names or choosing not to be called Grandmas has steadily increased. Many women of Grandmother ages no longer see themselves as a Grandma and have found themselves wanting a bespoke choice that suits their personality better.
We got inside the heads of some women with Grandchildren to see what they like to be called:
JENNY: I didn’t want to be called Grandma as I didn’t feel ready. I chose to be ‘Jen Jen’ and it’s completely stuck!
JANE: I always wanted to be a Granny. It still tugs on my heart strings when I hear my Grandchildren call me that!
SUSAN: I loved going on holiday to Italy and immediately knew I wanted to be a ‘Nonna’.

Some great stories include a little boy who’s Grandads both wanted to be called ‘Grandad’ so to differentiate they decided to call each one after their favourite football teams so he has a ‘Grandad Fulham’ and a ‘Grandad Reading’! Another little girl we know has a ‘Red Grandma’ and a ‘Blue Grandma’, named after the colours of their front doors.
Do you have a unique Grandma name or story? Each one is so unique and personal it’s always lovely to hear them ♥️
